Slide 1
Be a Hero

We envision a community where every child and young adult is safe, secure, and thriving. We believe every child deserves to have a permanent family and be well prepared for their future beyond foster care.

We envision a strongly connected community of care, creating an environment where every young person in the child welfare system can thrive, experience stability, enjoy their childhood, and be prepared for success in life.

What We Do

We believe that every child in foster care deserves to have a service leader who is dedicated to their well-being. We understand that each child in the system of care has unique needs, and we are dedicated to meeting those needs through a strongly connected community of care. By fostering strong relationships and collaboration, we make sure that every young person receives the individualized attention and support they deserve. Through our experienced team, diverse resources, and strong sense of community, Hero To A Child aims to create an environment where children feel safe, supported, and ready to conquer whatever challenges come their way.

Mila recently entered foster care for the second time. While only in middles school, Mila is the oldest of her siblings and has acted as the primary caregiver for much of her life. She struggles with having someone care for her but, thanks to several months of stability with her current foster mom, she has settled in and is feeling at home. Mila also has diabetes and often deals with health issues. Between the multiple removals and the health issues, Mila has fallen behind in school, especially in math. Her foster mom is committed to helping Mila on her schoolwork and helping her catch up in class, but Mila needs a laptop so she can do the homework. Unfortunately, Mila`s foster mom does not have the means to purchase the technology. Thanks to funds from Suncoast Credit Union Foundation and a request from Mila`s guardian ad litem volunteer, Hero To A Child was able to purchase Mila a laptop so she can continue studies at home with her foster mom. ...

Thank you to all of the donors that helped to make our 1st Annual Adulting 101 Teen Support Conference. We had a wonderful turnout at the event, learned a lot, and have had some great ideas for next year shared with us. We could not have done this without each of our donors. Thank you to PNCBank Raymond James Hancock Whitney Sunshine Health Vested HR

"A huge THANK YOU for the conference last night! It was so well organized and very informative. I learned so much and feel better equipped to be able to help the teens on my cases. The two teens I brought LOVED it! They told me they were nervous at first because they didn’t know what to expect, but after being there for a few minutes, everyone made them feel welcome. They were both so excited about finding resources available for them and told me they realized how many other teens just like them are in the system and how nice it is that so many people want to help them. They were also very excited about the gift cards, food and goodies! Thank you for all of your hard work in putting this together. I hope you all know the positive impact you made last night. I had two GALs and another teen there and they also told me how incredible they thought it was. Great job and many thanks!"

16-year-old Maya has been in care for 4 years and lives in a group home. She was embarrassed about a missing front tooth and had an upcoming leadership program, including professional photographs being taken of her. Maya has struggled with her mental health but has recently been doing well and is thriving in this leadership program but her confidence in her appearance was lacking due to her dental needs. Maya`s guardian ad litem volunteer wanted to help her gain her confidence back so she asked Hero To A Child for help with the dental work. Thanks to Raymond James Teens Needs funds, we were able to pay for Maya to have a removable, temporary tooth made that she can take in and out of her mouth as needed. It has given her a sense of normalcy in her appearance and increased her confidence greatly. Thank you for helping our kids smile again! ...
